R134a refrigerant cost is a moving target

By Wymetto Barnard

Buckle up it's vehicle refrigerant time again. If people in the automotive world you know it can be 90 greenbacks today and 120 dollars next week. That is the reason why it is a commodity. Back in the day I used to sell pallets and couldn't believe the price freon was bringing. Vehicle freon is wholesalers can make a little money or loose their tale at the end of the year if the freon prices drop although that rare. Wholesalers would buy tractor trailer purchases to get the best price and often in December. I sold more refrigerant r134a during december than any other month.

For the automotive shops it's barely a different game. The shops would need to buy aircon freon in little purchases which was pretty pricey but they also are billing with a mark up to the consumer or Johnny on the street. The sorrowful part is you almost have to keep on top of today's cost so you don't loose out on profit. Now for the consumer you have to understand that once that r134a freon is gone then the shop has to buy another cylendar and that price likely sky rocketed so it is a wild ride.

I had a shopper call today and asked the price. I then called a very small supplier and he had about 15 left and purchased them for $85.00 - my cost $102.00 I called the client back and told her $125.00 and she flipped out exclaiming I was the cheapest around. What was an equitable price for r134a? The highest quote she got was $179.00 - what a difference! I then proceeded to call my major supplier and I would have to purchase a pallet (that is about 40 cylendars) and my discounted rate was $125.00 - wow. Obviously I'm buying a couple of pallets; sell some and cling to some. Ensure you go searching. Some places will sell at a mark up of their purchase price and not what the cost of their next purchase!

As much as it may hurt you actually need to buy what you think you need times two or three. You'll make your stash back but stay alongside of the new commodity car freon cost. A fast call to your local parts store will keep your numbers in line. If you get a superb deal - yes they come along - make sure you call a couple of other shops and make them aware you can buy in volume and if they would like going in with you for this nice price; naturally after you mark it up 2 bucks! Don't fret you are doing them a favour because they need to buy freon too.

The consumer will get the quote and lose it but automobile air conditioning is not optional - particularly if you live in the southern states like I do. They have to suck it up and pay it. I am hoping you found this piece beneficial and tell me if I can be helpful.
