Popular Accessories for an Inflatable Pontoon Boat

By Danny Matterson

Owning your first ever inflatable pontoon boat is a liberating experience, especially if you're an avid fisherman. Being able to troll the waters whenever you want, catch fresh fish for lunch or dinner or just enjoy the scenery and tranquility of nature are just some of the benefits of having your own inflatable pontoon.

Compared to a rigid-hull fishing boat, an inflatable pontoon is easily maneuverable and very stable. Navigating narrow or wide channels isn't a problem with inflatable pontoons and you have an option to go slow or fast with the installation of a motor mount. Where a traditional hard shell fishing boat would tip over if you're not careful enough to balance the weight on both sides, an inflatable pontoon remains surprisingly stable. This can be attributed to the wide spaces and low center of gravity inherent in the design of an inflatable fishing boat.

It comes as no surprise that every angler and fishing boat fan would want to own his own inflatable pontoon. The good news is that because they only cost a fraction of the price of a traditional hard shell, it is now actually possible to buy one right away. In terms of maintenance and repair, the cost is also very affordable. It only takes 10 minutes or less to take down its component parts, put them back together again, inflate and deflate them, making transport and storage fast and expedient.

But an inflatable boat purchase does not end with just the pontoon itself. You will also need to buy the accessories you need for a secure and pleasurable trip. There are some accessories that come with the boat but most are not so you will have to invest in them.

A basic checklist of the most important accessories for your pontoon inflatable includes an air pump, personal flotation device, flashlight and first aid kit. These essential accessories are necessary especially if you're fishing alone so check and double check that you have them on board before setting out. You will also have to invest in oar straps if your pontoon doesn't have them so your oars won't get lost while you're on water.

A repair kit is a very important accessory that you must always have on-board your sea craft. Given the fact that modern inflatable pontoon boats in the market today are made of near puncture-resistant fabric, there's little chance that you'll be putting your repair kit to use while you're on water but it is good habit to always bring it with you in every expedition.

The chance to camp out or find a place near the river to cook your catch and revel in the tranquility of nature is one of the highlights of a fishing trip. To ensure that you can moor your boat anywhere on water without having to disassemble and deflate, anchor brackets are a must. If your boat is not equipped with these, make sure that you buy one.

A fishing expedition is always an occasion to look forward to. But proper planning is a necessary element for a safe and enjoyable ride. Make sure that you have all the essential accessories before you go on your trip.
