Daytona Bike Week 2009: An Event to Be Remembered

By Kerry Collins

Every year the Daytona Bike Week is held during spring time and this is considered by many to be the start of the motorcycle riding season, unofficially of course. This event generates about $300 million for the Daytona Beach economy as there are normally around 500,000 motorcyclists who will attend.

If you are a keen motorcyclist then this is one event you will have to have on your bucket list. If you can manage to get there just once, you're pretty likely go back multiple times in the future.

In the months and weeks leading up to Daytona Bike Week 2009, organizers were concerned that the sluggish economy would drastically hurt their event. They were right, but only in terms of the attendance numbers themselves. Most of the hotels that would usually be filled to capacity were flashing vacancy signs for the whole week. But other than that, you would not have noticed anything else out of the ordinary.

Daytona Bike Week 2009 featured the usual motorcycle races across town at the Daytona International Speedway. This was an important part of the Bike Week as it was these races that were the cornerstone of the Bike Week and which helped to establish it more than seventy years ago. Across town, on the other side a new record was being set by Harley Davidson for the number of demo rides provided by them. The unofficial number of rides per day was put at about 2,000. This totals a lot of rides when you think about the whole week.

And the usual party atmosphere was not missing from Daytona Bike Week 2009 thankfully. There was plenty of fantastic music, alcohol a plenty and scantily clad women with huge grins. The 2009 event was just what was predicted in terms of attendance but in terms of great atmosphere, it surpassed expectations.

If you actually attended the 2009 event but did not manage to get your hands on an official T-shirt for some reason, then don't worry about it. Thankfully the Online Biker Shop will be able to help you out in this regard. The Daytona Bike Week 2009 stuff is not limited to those who attended; if you just want to improve your rally or festival collections, then you can buy these items yourself today.
