Riding Glasses And How They Can Make Or Break Your Ride

By Joanna Fredricson

As any biker knows, the open air is not a clean medium. As you ride down the highway at speed, you are bound to end up meeting all sorts of debris such as rocks and stones as well as bugs. Any biker riding with his mouth open will surely have enjoyed one or two bugs in his time. So it goes without saying that a biker's trip can be made or broken by his choice of riding glasses.

Some bikers use a face shield that protects them from much of the flying debris. Therefore they don't really need biker glasses. However if your helmet does not have a face shield or if you don't wear a helmet then you will really benefit from riding glasses.

The type of riding glasses that you choose should be ones that are going to protect your eyes from flying debris. That means you need shatterproof lenses made of polycarbonate materials.

You will not want your glasses to come off your head when you are travelling fast so they need to be a snug fit. Ideally, glasses with molded arms that curve around the side of the head are optimal. These glasses should stay snug to your head even if the wind is quite strong.

Foam padding around the rims of the glasses is another thing to be on the lookout for. With this padding in place, you will find the glasses a more comfortable fit and they will not be sitting right next to your skin. With room for air, you will find that these glasses have less chance of fogging up when the weather gets cooler or wetter. This is especially important at nighttime, when it's difficult to see anyway. The last thing you need is a pair of glasses that gets foggy when the sun goes down.

One of the most important accessories for a biker who does not have a face shield is a pair of riding glasses. You will find top quality riding glasses at companies like the Online Biker Shop and you should definitely make a point of looking for good quality glasses. Although you might have to pay a little bit extra for quality, it will be well worth it.
